Has anyone had to replace front fork seals yet? Is it DYI job or do you have to give it to a triumph technician to do

Depending on your DYI skills. I did mine last Friday, with a lot of wasted time ( mucking around looking for tools and making some) it took me about 8hrs. and wihtout counting my labor it cost me A$89.00.

Great resource, in addition to the service manual. Upside of DR Mooman's efforts, and other threads on here, is that us DIY'ers often find better, easier, faster or cheaper ways to do these tasks than as they are written in the Triumph manual (which, since they charge by the hour, you get the gist!!!).

I've got a laundry list of stuff to do once the snow flies here in Upstate NY. And this is one of them!

I did mine after my lap around the country, it's mentioned on here somewhere, I used a short cut method that I used successfully in the marine trade, although I was shouted down by an old member for it not being possible. It does take patience and care but can be done if you are game. If you stuff it up you can damage the fork chrome, if you are keen i will describe it.

Lee: If your method was simplified in someway to take away the ability to get it wrong it certainly is easier as You virtually do it that way anyway as the upper bushing is smaller than the seal and thus the "Complete Fork Tube including valving" has to be assembled first then the bush re fitted and then the seals. I actually made a seal installer out of a bit of 50mm PVC pipe to be over the top of the tube to install the seal.

I have done it your way and it works if you are careful, and takes a lot less time.

Gerry I have the same seal installation tool

Really apart from being super careful it just requires the forks to be fully collapsed so that if you do mark the chrome with the drill chuck it should be above the seal area and mask up the forks with good two inch masking tape.
